Katharine Hepburn - Boys Have All The Fun!

Katherine Hepburn was an American actress and leading lady in Hollywood for more than 60 years, she was also well known for her trouser movement, creating the conversation of boy and girls clothing being one. At the age of nine, Hepburn had her head shaved, and had already stole her brothers clothing. She says ‘I had a phase as a child when I wished I was a boy because boys had all the fun’ as sad as it might seem in the 1920s it would appear that boys did have all the fun, girls where meant to stay at home and learn how to be housewives. This never stopped Hepburn from making her own rules, when casted for roles she wasn’t really what people expected. The audience had never seen a girl like that, she seemed to bark at them and she didn’t play for sympathy at all, the audience wasn’t quite sure if they liked her or not however this part of her personality is what kept people interested to see more.

While wide-legged trousers are a very fun look, they are also extremely comfortable, this may have been one of the reasons women wanted and should have been able to wear them when hard at work, never mind the classic and chic look that came along with them. Katherine wasn’t crazy about accessories, unlike other actresses of the era she never dressed up in expensive jewellery, she kept her look simple, wide-leg trousers paired with a perfectly tucked-in blouse. This effortless look made working women fashionable ladies, as well as the look that gave Katherine her fame and even more importantly her confidence. Katherine was a part of this light at the end of the tunnel for many women who thought they could not express themselves in not only the clothing they wore but also the attitude they walked around with.
